A photo book of Japanese photographer Nobuo Nakamura. Born in Fukushima Prefecture in 1946, he traveled to the United States at the age of 23 to earn a living from photography. He became a studio assistant for an advertising photographer and trained while working part-time, relying on the tips of people he met in the city without speaking English. In 1981, he became a freelancer and was active in advertising photography for Harper's Bazaar, Blumeingdale, etc., and returned to Japan in 1984 to the present day. This book is a collection of works published by Chikuma Shobo in 1985, and consists of portraits taken in Harlem after becoming freelance. Drugs, prostitution, murder, unemployment ... Harlem, a black settlement feared by locals at the time. There, the black people who live in search of freedom and happiness are superimposed on their love for their relatives, and the pictures are taken with the desire to capture the warm "heart" and "eyes" that the parents think of their children and the children miss their parents. A lot of illustrations. After studying karate and zazen to enable the shooting of a large Derdorf 8x10, the works taken while being sung by the rain and wind with his wife and children were purchased in 1984 at an organization that handles cultural materials in Harlem for permanent preservation. That's right. A book filled with human efforts, love, hope, and dreams. Edited by Keiko Yamagishi.
