"Kochi: Lost Landscapes" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Soichiro Shima (1933-). Born in Ino-cho, Agawa-gun, Kochi Prefecture, Shima graduated from Ritsumeikan University and, while working for the Kochi City Hall for many years from 1961, continued to take photographs. From 1964, he joined the local photography club "Tatei Betsu Shadan." Rather than visiting the area from the outside, he lived there himself, observing the city and people of Kochi and their changes. This book, published in 1989, is a photo collection that documents the streetscapes of Kochi that gradually disappeared with urbanization and changes in lifestyles, and the lives of the people who once lived there.
