"Michibata" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Michio Kamijo (1948-2015). Born in Ikaruga-cho, Nara Prefecture, Kamijo entered the world of photography while still in high school. In his mid-twenties, he moved to Tokyo, where he trained at Azabu Studio before becoming a disciple of Daido Moriyama. In 1976, he started his own independent photography studio in Shinjuku, "Gallery Shop CAMP," which also involved Daido Moriyama and Keizo Kitajima. "Michibata" is not something he started in his final years, but rather a work that Kamijo had been working on for many years, having already been published in the early 1980s. Walking through the city, his gaze directed at nameless everyday scenes such as street corners, intersections, stairs, and people passing by quietly reveals the presence of people and fragments of time hidden within them. Kamijo passed away in September 2015, just before the completion of this book. The Michio Kamijo Photobook Publication Committee, carrying on his legacy, published the book the following October through Shichigetsudo. Featuring bookmarks by Goro Nakagawa and Hideki Suemori, it adopts a boxed card format, allowing readers to engage with each photograph individually. It is a valuable volume for tracing Kamijo's photographic expression, which has continued since the CAMP era. Limited to 100 copies.
