"Swimming Bodies / Drifting" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Naohiro Harada (1982-). Born in Tokyo, Harada graduated from the Department of Spatial Imaging at Waseda University's School of Art and Design in 2010, and held his first solo exhibition, "Swimming Bodies," at the Nikon Salon in Shinjuku and Osaka the following year, 2011. He has since presented works that explore the human body, consciousness, and the relationship between seeing and memory, using the city as his setting. This book compiles the series of the same name that he has been working on since his first solo exhibition, and is his first photobook, published by Zen Photo Gallery in 2014. Composed of images of people passing by on the streets, it is composed using a technique that Harada describes as "the first style I acquired," which involves isolating only the people from strong light and shadow. By erasing the concrete landscape that shapes the city as if washing it away, the remaining bodies, while being real people, emerge like illusions or images of memory. This is an important book that shows the starting point of Harada's photographic expression, which later developed into "To the Third Room" and "Tokyo Fishgraphs." Limited to 500 copies.
