"The Smell of India (English Edition, Signed)" is a collection of works by Italian photographer Paolo Roversi (1947-). This work, documenting his 1989 trip to India, was inspired by the eponymous book by poet Pier Paolo Pasolini and created while staying at a hotel in Kochi where Pasolini had once resided. Roversi has long been at the forefront of fashion photography, capturing the inner lives of his subjects with soft light and delicate shadows. In this work, however, he directs his sensibility towards the exotic atmosphere, people, and scents of the city. Within the serene tones and subtle grain, prayer and the passage of time permeate the image, creating a landscape where mystery and everyday life intersect. Pasolini's words and Roversi's photographs resonate with each other, resulting in a poetic collection where different eras and sensibilities overlap as a single travel memory.
