"Guava Farang" is a photobook by French photographer Romain Vincent Guillot. The title "Farang" is a Thai word meaning foreigner or Westerner, and is also used in Thailand to refer to guava. This book is a collection of photographs taken by the photographer during his stay in Thailand, while consciously aware of his position as a foreigner. What is captured are fragments of everyday life: people, street scenes, plants, buildings, light and shadow. Rather than a documentary explaining specific events or societies, it quietly weaves together the sense of time spent in a different culture and the fluctuations of memories. Guillot does not capture his subjects as an external observer, but rather layers photographs while moving between distance and intimacy with the place. Depicting a foreign land and re-examining one's own perspective—both overlap in this book, which transcends the framework of a travel record and delicately reflects the process of encounters with others and self-awareness.
