In his 30s, he made a name for himself photographing the music scene, and from his 40s onward, he has produced works related to contemporary art and dance, as well as urban landscapes. In recent years, as his hometown of Sendai suffered immense damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake, he has photographed the tsunami sites along the Pacific coast affected by the disaster and has presented his work in solo exhibitions. This book, published in 1986, is a representative work of Jin Sato and a masterpiece of independent photography. In the late 1970s, a series of rock culture movements in which underground people actively promoted themselves, held continuous gigs, and produced and sold their own records are broadly referred to as "Tokyo Rockers," and this book contains portraits of dozens of independent bands such as Hanatarash, Keiji Haino, and Friction, as well as scenes from the music scene and behind the scenes.
