"Blind Date Exhibition" is a collection of exhibition records by Japanese photographer Rieko Shiga (1980-). Through photography, Shiga has explored images that arise at the intersection of self and society, events and the body. This book reconstructs her 2017 exhibition "Blind Date" at the Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art not merely as a record, but as a process of thought and experience. The book is divided into three volumes: "Inside Out," "Relay Talk & Workshop," and "Text." Through Shiga's own attempts to re-photograph the exhibition space and backstage area, the dialogues and collaborative practices that took place during the exhibition, and the texts that continued to be rewritten even after the exhibition, the process by which the works were born, shared, and transformed is revealed in multiple layers. The tension inherent in the relationship of seeing/being seen and contact with others continues to be renewed even after leaving the exhibition space, and the images are not fixed, but are presented as something that comes again and again from other places. This work, starting with "Blind Date," expands Rieko Shiga's practice both temporally and spatially, and can be interpreted as an attempt to re-examine the very boundaries between photography and exhibitions.
