"Shoji Ueda Photographs / Shoji Ueda Photobook (With OBI)" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Shoji Ueda. Born in Tottori Prefecture in 1913, Shoji Ueda dedicated nearly 70 years to his creative activities, maintaining an amateur spirit in Sakaiminato, the town where he was born and raised. His works, set in rural Japan, depict the local climate and culture, and some of his documentary-style photographs contain many "heavy" images. While the importance of history is understood, there are elements that may be difficult for young people today to accept. However, Shoji Ueda's works are "light" and, in a sense, "easy to understand," which is why they continue to be passed down to young people across generations. Despite being a photographer who narrowed his themes and motifs to such an extent throughout his long career, his "Ueda style" remains timeless, modern, universal, and richly poetic. This book is a collection of works ranging from the early 1930s to a series of commercial works created in the 1980s. The restrained beige-brown cover and book design, reminiscent of Ueda Sakyu, are by Tomiyasu Shiraiwa. Includes dust jacket.
