"Studio Paradiso" is a photobook by Dutch photographer Max Natkiel. This book is a collection of portraits, totaling approximately 600 images, taken over a decade from 1980 to 1990, of young people who frequented the Amsterdam live music venue "Paradiso." It's an expanded edition of the 1986 photobook "Paradiso Stills," edited by philosopher/writer Dirk van Weelden, who frequently visited Paradiso in the early 80s and met Natkiel. The young people of that era—punks, rockers, mods, Rastafarians, skinheads, etc.—were linked to the music scene and dressed in distinctive fashion and makeup. Their youthful excess, naivety, and unrestrainedness are prominent, yet they are incredibly cool and stylish. While there's a certain innocence about them, the young people, with their straightforward gazes, all have wonderful expressions. Even as a collection of fashion snapshots, this photobook remains fresh today. Four different covers are available.
