"Sodom's Paradise" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Yoshioka. He made his debut at the "Yomiuri Independent Exhibition" in 1961, but his exhibited works were withdrawn for being "obscene." He then self-published his first photobook in 1962, mainly consisting of these removed works. Through the depiction of the human body using strong monochrome contrasts and collages, he was an artist who challenged the very meaning of "humanity" by creating and expressing avant-garde works, and his early works were highly praised by the master Man Ray. After that, he made a name for himself with still photographs of Kobo Abe, Hiroshi Teshigahara, Nagisa Oshima, and others, and alongside Eikoh Hosoe, Yasuhiro Yoshioka was a standard-bearer of avant-garde photographic art in the 1960s. This book is a collection of works published by Haga Shoten in the early 1970s, depicting avant-garde nudes with actress Mihiro Wakabayashi, who also appeared in films by Nagisa Oshima and Koji Wakamatsu, as the model. Divided into six chapters, this book features a unique layout mixing color and black-and-white images, and boasts stylish cover design by Keisuke Nagatomo. The texts by Nagisa Oshima, Kazuko Shiraishi, and others are also fascinating. The dust jacket is missing.
