"Reading Raymond Carver" is a collection of works by American female photographer Mary Frey. Born in 1948 in Yonkers, upstate New York, Frey lived close to Manhattan and was engrossed in viewing paintings and drawings in numerous museums. However, after being deeply impacted by Henri Cartier-Bresson's "The Decisive Moment," she seriously pursued photography. In the 1970s, she worked in editorial and commercial photography-related fields, but after earning her MFA from Yale University, she shifted her focus to "photography education," believing that teaching was her true calling and dedicating many years to teaching. In the 1980s, she exhibited at MoMA and other institutions, and received fellowships, demonstrating her highly regarded talent. Despite this, Frey distanced herself from the public eye and dedicated herself to education. However, with this book, published in 2017 (excluding private editions), which is essentially her first book, it was nominated for the 2017 "Paris Photo Aperture Foundation's shortlist for best First Photo Book." Her name became known throughout the world, and Frey's exploits continued in subsequent "Real Life Dramas" series.
