"In Bloom" is a collection of works by French artist Jean-Vincent Simonet (1991–). Simonet, who studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, is known for his unique technique of treating photographs not merely as records but as materials, altering prints using chemicals, inks, and water. Images melt, bleed, and transform in a flowing manner, creating an organic and hallucinatory visual world that transcends real-world landscapes. This book is a series born from his first visit to Japan in 2016, and is created using photographs of clubs, neon lights, alleys, and young people in the nighttime streets of Tokyo and Osaka as its material. The light and colors of the city are transformed into abstract images through chemical processing, resulting in works that visualize the energy and physical sensations of the city at night. This is an experimental photobook that reconstructs the urban experience itself as images, moving back and forth between the boundaries of photography and material, record and hallucination.
