"Incoming Messages" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Yae Inada. After working at an advertising agency and studying photography, Inada began creating this work in 2019 after participating in Yumi Goto's "Photobook as Object" workshop. The project began when she encountered Camp Drake, a former U.S. military base near where she lived, and its remains, which led her to become aware of memories of the postwar occupation and traces of everyday life on the land. This book features photographs of the dilapidated wooden hut that sparked this interest, as well as relics from the nearby base site. It also incorporates historical documents and testimonies from residents, creating a perspective that overlaps the past with the present through the "device" of the hut. The text and images evoke questions like "who was seeing what" and "what kind of life they lived," carefully weaving together the atmosphere between the residents' everyday memories and history. This hand-bound book is limited to 49 copies and is signed by the photographer .
