Japanese author Mitsuhiko Kuze (1935-2006) wrote "Women of the Rainy Season." Having made his mark on television drama history as a director for TBS, Kuze later portrayed the memories and urban shadows of the Showa era in works such as "Winter 1934 - Ranpo," "Himiko," and "Kuniko Mukoda's Love Letters." In this volume, he turns his attention to Tokyo's nightlife in the mid-1990s. Accompanied by photographs by Haruho Endo, the book chronicles the lives of women living away from their homeland in the corners of the world's economic capital. The interplay of text and imagery quietly brings to light the reality that lies between the light and shadow of the city. Through the portrayal of the periphery that Tokyo has embraced since its period of rapid economic growth, the book poses questions to the reader about the hidden hidden aspects of its affluence.
