"Aomori / Aomori 1950-1962 (First Printing)" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Masaichi Kudo (1929-2014). A photojournalist who served as head of the photography department and director of the To-o Nippo newspaper in Aomori Prefecture, he was a regular winner of the "monthly" photo competition in the postwar 1950s, where judges included Ihei Kimura, Ken Domon, and Hiroshi Hamaya. For many years, he continued to photograph ordinary people in his hometown of Aomori as his life's work, but most of his photographs never saw the light of day until his death in 2014. His daughter later discovered a large number of film images taken by her father, and with the help of her husband, scanned them. She then started an Instagram account showcasing the images, gaining popularity with followers overseas. This led to a solo exhibition curated by Kyoichi Tsuzuki in 2021, and the publication of this photo book. This book is creating a buzz in the photography world as an introduction to lesser-known photographers like Vivian Maier of the United States. Edited by Koichi Matsumoto of Inunick and Junko Ogawa of Misuzu Shobo. First printing.
