This is a collection of works by London-based photographer Liz Johnson-Artur. She has been a pioneer in the field of "Black Community" photography, exploring African immigrants around the world and dedicated to portraying the complexities of Black identity. Her achievements are evident in her receiving the Women in Motion Photography Prize in 2021, previously awarded to Miyako Ishiuchi in 2024 and Nan Goldin in 2025. Born in Bulgaria in 1964 and raised by a Russian mother and a Ghanaian father, she spent her childhood in Eastern Europe and Germany. She first encountered Black communities in Brooklyn in the mid-1980s, and since becoming a photographer, she has pursued the African diaspora around the world. Her work, titled "Black Balloon Archive," is a project documenting people, many of whom have been forced to migrate to different parts of the world, building communities and living beautiful, resilient lives. This book, her first book, features over 100 images selected from these projects. Limited to 700 copies. Extremely rare book.
