This photo collection features the Dojunkai Apartments, which once stood in Tokyo and its suburbs. Following the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake, the Dojunkai was established as a foundation to build earthquake- and fire-resistant apartment complexes. The current location of Omotesando Hills was formerly the site of the Dojunkai Aoyama Apartments, a portion of which (on the Omotesando Station side) was reconstructed by Tadao Ando as part of a commercial complex. Not only did the buildings boast a tasteful exterior, but every detail of the interiors was meticulously planned for their residents, making them Japan's first "urban cultural apartment complex." This book compiles a collection of high-quality photographs showcasing architectural and interior designs not only from Aoyama but also from Ueno, Otsuka, Minowa, Uguisudani, and Toranomon.
