Dish Trick is a collection of works by American photographer Jo Ann Callis (1940-). Emerging in the late 1970s, she is known for her practice of transforming everyday objects into psychological scenes through staged studio images, establishing her as a key figure in the so-called "fabricated photography" movement. Her unique worldview, which simultaneously captures desire, anxiety, humor, and unease hidden within the home, has demonstrated the potential for photography to weave fiction around intimate motifs such as still lifes and interiors. This book revisits the artist's archives, interweaving color works from the late 1970s with her black-and-white "Grid" still lifes from the 1980s. The foldout pages gradually unfold the scenes, presenting a physical reading experience as familiar objects—tableware, fabrics, and dining tables—build up a narrative tension. This collection engages the viewer's imagination to uncover the layers of emotion and anxiety hidden within everyday objects.
