"GOTH: Reality of the Departed World" is an exhibition catalogue published in Japan in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name held at the Yokohama Museum of Art. It aims to comprehensively introduce the visual expression of goth culture, spanning fashion, photography, and contemporary art. Formed after the post-punk movement of the 1970s and 1980s, goth culture has forged a unique aesthetic through strong ties to music, decoration, and physical expression. This book attempts to reexamine this trend within the institution of the museum. Featuring a diverse range of expressions centered around themes such as death, decadence, darkness, ornamentation, and identity, it demonstrates the process by which subculture has become connected to the realm of art. Masayuki Yoshinaga also participated in this exhibition, and his gothic and lolita portraits taken at the venue were later published in the photo book "Gothic & Lolita." This book marks the intersection of subculture and museums, documentation and artistic production.
