"Patricia" is a collection of works by Taku Arata, one of Japan's leading postwar photographers. He spent his childhood (during the war) in Manchuria. After graduating from what is now Musashino Art University in 1960, he worked as a designer, but thanks to his connection with Shoji Yamagishi, editor-in-chief of Camera Mainichi, he turned to photography in the 1970s. From 1973 to 1976, he worked as a correspondent for the Bunka Publishing Bureau, photographing fashion in Paris. While the 1970s were filled with glamorous works, in the 1980s, after reuniting with his parents, who had been separated in Manchuria, he began to desire a deeper connection with the feelings of those long removed from their homeland, Japan. He interviewed Japanese immigrants in South America and Hawaii, as well as orphans left behind in China. This series was compiled in 1986 as "Distant Homeland," which won the Domon Ken Award. This book features New York-born model Patricia Snalick, and is a collection of stunning images in both black and white and color. Foreword by Shoji Yamagishi. Limited to 3000 copies.
