Dream Away is a collection of works by American photographer Michael E. Northrup (1948-). Known for his light-hearted style that captures the humor and sadness hidden in the everyday, Northrup has documented middle-class American life from an intimate perspective since the 1970s. His snapshot-like yet structured photographs simultaneously capture the humor of everyday life and human loneliness. This book tells a personal story through 66 photographs spanning the approximately ten years from his marriage to his wife, whom he met in 1976, to their divorce. The photographs capture the process by which family scenes, children's growth, and casual gestures transform over time into memories of love. They contain not only records of happiness but also the sensations of separation and loss, quietly demonstrating that photography is an act of unearthing "fragments of emotion that linger between the past and the present."
