"Sasuke" is a photo collection by one of Japan's leading photographers, Masahisa Fukase. His "Cat" series ranks alongside "Family," "Yoko (Wife)," and "Raven" as his signature works. During his lifetime, he published three collections: "Viva! Sasuke" (1978), "Sasuke!! My Dear Cat" (1978), and "The Strawhat Cat" (1979). After his death, he published "Wonderful Days" (2015) and "Afterword" (2016) through roshin books. This latest work, published in 2021 by Akaaka Art Publishing, is the definitive edition of his Fukase Cat series, featuring illustrations of "Sasuke" and "Momoe." Fukase himself said that he projected the free-spirited, selfish, and sometimes lonely image of cats onto himself, resulting in works that are like "self-portraits." This book may also be called the definitive work on Fukase's personal photography, as he continued to capture himself through his subjects, to the point that his ex-wife Yoko called him "an incurable egoist." Published in 2021, this first edition comes with a tote bag.
