Dislocations is a collection of works by American photographer Alex Webb (1952-). Known for his vivid colors and complex compositions, Webb, who traveled extensively for Magnum Photos and primarily traveled to Latin America and the Caribbean, intertwines light and shadow, the hustle and bustle of the city, and solitude, capturing the boundaries between reality and illusion. This new edition, originally published in a 1998 limited accordion-style edition by Thames & Hudson in 2023, brings this long-unavailable masterpiece to life. While maintaining the tension of the original, the addition of newly selected images further illuminates the disconnection and transition inherent in cities and landscapes. The intense colors and multilayered framing visualize the dislocations—the disconnection between place and time—and offer a new insight into the complexity and poetry of the world as captured by Webb's gaze.
