This is a collection of works by French photographer Jean-Yves Gougaud. Since the 1970s, he has been deeply involved in the activities of theater, circus, and traveling arts groups, quietly documenting the gap between everyday life and expression. His long-term series of photographs of traveling performers and outdoor theater companies, capturing moments where life and art intertwine—backstage preparation, rest, and in between moves—have earned him acclaim for his unstaged gaze and lyrical monochromes. His work also frequently features nudes that emerge naturally in the everyday lives of these communities, consistently embracing a stance that does not sexualize the gaze but rather views the body itself as part of expression and life. This is one of a series of books published by Nippon Geijutsu Shuppansha in the 1990s.
