"Araki Mythology" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki (1940-). Araki is known for boldly and sensually capturing everything from nudes to urban landscapes and fragments of everyday life, establishing a unique style known as "personal photography." Since the late 1960s, he has been actively producing works, earning high praise both in Japan and abroad for his perspective on the everyday, intertwining universal themes such as love, life, and death. This book is a French-language edition of his collection, originally published by French publisher Images Modernes in 2001. It features images selected from various series that explore the worlds of Eros and Thanatos, a long-held pursuit of Araki. The photographs, which freely shift between monochrome and color, exude both a deep affection for their subjects and a gaze on death, vividly demonstrating the mythological worldview that underlies Araki's art.
