"Tama Anima (Please Breathe on Me)" is a collection of works by Japanese artist Rei Naito. Naito is a contemporary artist known for visualizing subtle natural "presences"—wind, light, water, gravity—as spaces that resonate with the viewer. This work marks her first foray into the theme of the atomic bomb, and is comprised of pieces originally exhibited at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. Arranging glass bottles that were exposed to the atomic bomb and small carved wooden figures, visitors breathe on the water's surface at the edge of the work, creating ripples and allowing them to experience moments of life and death, prayer, and memory. This work was photographed by Naoya Hatakeyama and reconstructed as a photo exhibition titled "Tama/Anima (Please Breathe on Me)" at Gallery Koyanagi in 2014. The photodocumentation condenses and conveys the quiet place of prayer at the time of the exhibition. It has also garnered international attention, having been re-exhibited in Paris, France, in 2016 as part of the "Transphère" series. This is a mini catalogue from my solo exhibition at Gallery Koyanagi.
