"Shibuya, Shibuya (With OBI)" is a collection of works by leading Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921-2012). Terms like "sculptural beauty" and "design-like" are often used to describe Ishimoto's photographic expression, and his exceptional aesthetic sense, cultivated through the New Bauhaus movement, created a unique worldview not seen in other Japanese photographers of the time. While Ishimoto's architectural photographs, such as those of Katsura Imperial Villa, and his landscapes that capture urban landscapes in a sculptural way are well-known, his foundation is still street photography. This approach can be sensed in his masterpieces, "Somewhere, Somewhere, Somewhere" and "Chicago, Chicago." This book is comprised of images taken by Ishimoto, mostly without a viewfinder, around Shibuya Scramble Crossing in his later years, when he was over 80 years old. Ishimoto's work is undoubtedly based on a sense of form and a unique observational eye, but these works also convey Ishimoto's stance of enjoying the act of photography itself, as if he were obsessed with the culture unleashed by the city and the charm of human individuality.
