Japanese photographer Yoshinobu Nakamura's photo collection, "The Woman Sea Divers in Japan (Signed)," is a collection of photographs by the Japanese photographer Yoshinobu Nakamura. Born in 1925 on Naoshima Island, Kagawa Prefecture, Nakamura's father was one of the island's last fishing masters. He grew up watching the Seto Inland Sea, and even after joining the Mitsubishi Refinery, he continued his amateur photography career, studying under Yoichi Midorikawa, a leading photographer of the Seto Inland Sea. After turning 30, he became a professional photographer, capturing the local climate and culture through photographs such as "The Seto Inland Sea" and "The People of the Seto Inland Sea." He also left behind significant works, such as "Steam Trains and Steam Locomotives" and "Women Divers," that convey the fading traditions of Japanese folklore. This book is one of Nakamura's masterpieces, showcasing the female divers. With the advent of wetsuits, female divers have become rare. Their brave, dignified appearances, clad only in loincloths, as they brave the ocean floor, are both resilient and graceful. This collection not only comprehensively explores the culture of female divers in Japan, but also serves as a valuable record from a folkloric perspective. Commentary by Tsuneichi Miyamoto. Limited to 2000 copies.
