"A Hong Kong Memoir (Second Edition)" is a photobook by Fan Ho, a photographer and filmmaker born in Shanghai who was active in Hong Kong. Born in Shanghai in 1931, Fan Ho moved to Hong Kong in 1949 after the war. He continued to capture on camera the turbulent decades of Hong Kong, from its transition from British territory to rapid economic development and its return to China in 1997. After working as an actor from the 1960s onward, he became a full-fledged film director after working as an assistant, and has since produced nearly 30 works. The images, captured with exceptional lighting and composition, are full of beauty reminiscent of movie scenes, and are rich in humanity and romance. To date, Fan Ho has received approximately 300 awards, and his works are permanently held in numerous museums around the world, including MoMA. This book is the final installment in Fan Ho's trilogy, following "Hong Kong Yesterday" and "The Living Theatre." Created using experimental techniques such as collage and solarization, it's a moving photo story where the past, present, and future of Hong Kong over several decades since the war intersect and resonate.
