A Journey in Reverse Direction is a collection of works by Zhu Lanqing, a female photographer born in Fujian Province, China. Born in Dongshan Island in 1991, Zhu Lanqing earned her master's degree in photojournalism from Renmin University of China, then moved to Taiwan, where she has been exhibiting her work at the Arles Photo Festival and exhibitions since the 2010s. She became interested in the village where she lived as a junior high school student, and was particularly attracted to the old houses that looked like they were about to collapse. She thought it would be a shame for them to disappear without a trace, so she borrowed her grandfather's camera and started taking pictures. She has taken photography not only as a means of expression, but also as a story to tell, and has depicted her personal thoughts through self-published collections of works. This work is a collection of works on the theme of "hometown." Inspired by the youth memoir "The Boy from the Windgate," which was the first autobiographical subject of Taiwanese film director Hou Hsiao-hsien's work, she took a fresh look at her "hometown," reconsidered her hometown, and created a personal documentary around the island.
