Araki Meets Hokusai is a collection of works by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading photographers. The book was published on the occasion of an exhibition held in Hannover, Germany in 2008, and is a collaboration between Araki and the Edo-period ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai (Hokusai). The two-volume set features Araki's first published "Flower Bondage" series and a collection of Hokusai works owned by Hannover-based collector Michael Thun. Hokusai's paintings are filled with allusions to erotic desire and sexuality, while Araki's photographs use traditional techniques used by woodblock masters to create pictorial figures, creating an intriguing visual dialogue between modern eroticism and the traditions of Japanese art.
