The Former Capital is a collection of works by Dutch photographer Rob Hornstra. He is a photographer who has been working on documentary works on the former Soviet Union for a long time, and together with film director and journalist Arnold van Bruggen, he has compiled a series of works that document the actual conditions and changes in the region over the five years leading up to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, which have attracted worldwide attention. The series was compiled into The Sochi Project: An Atlas of War and Tourism in the Caucasus. This book is also the first issue of the collaborative project with Bruggen, The Europeans. Titled "The Former Capital," this work focuses on Lithuania and depicts through the words and portraits of the people the reality of the growing movement for a strong, unique identity due to the effects of a stagnant economy and population decline. In contrast to the rise of globalization and the opening of borders, closed politics and organizations. This book is a sense of the rise of new morals and identities.
