"Barricade (Signed)" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Kazuo Kitai. Winner of the first Kimura Ihei Photography Award ("To the Village" (1980)), Kazuo Kitai is one of Japan's leading documentary photographers. From his "struggle" works such as "Resistance" (1965) in the postwar 1960s, to his "Countryside" series depicting the forgotten landscapes of Japan since the 1970s, to his urban life and China-related works, Kitai has found meaning in photography by recording the so-called "everyday world," and has left behind a number of intimate, somewhat nostalgic, and profound works. This book was published in 2012 on the occasion of an exhibition held at Harper's Books in East Hampton, USA. Kitai's first solo exhibition in the United States featured unpublished photographs of the "student movement" from the late 1960s, a masterpiece of protest photography that Nakahira also praised at the time. The book was designed by John Gossage, a master of American photography and one of the leading photo book collectors. The design and layout, which uses red, are also excellent. Limited to 1,000 copies.
