This book is a catalogue published on the occasion of a solo exhibition introducing the work of Tomatsu Shomei, one of Japan's leading photographers, spanning 30 years after the war (1951 to the end of 1980). With Fukushima Tatsuo and others as executive members and the cooperation of alumni of the All Japan Student Photography Federation (produced by the student federation alumni "491" and Shiraiwa Tomiyoshi), this is a major retrospective held in a total of 60 locations nationwide over three years. The exhibition is made up of over 500 photographs in six sections (1. When Weathering, 2. Chewing Gum and Chocolate, 3. Japan, 4. GNP, 5. Eruption, 6. At the end of the book, there is a section entitled "Tomatsu Shomei Theory" with the following works: "Artists and Courage" (Oshima Nagisa), "House" (Isozaki Arata), "Asphalt" (Okada Takahiko), "Don't Sing the Light! Kill the Light!" (Yoshimasu Gozo), "Tomatsu Shomei Theory" (Suzuki Shiroyasu), "Occupation as Seen Subjectively" (Yoshimura Shinya), "My Heart is a Lonely Hunter" and "Fiona McLoud Hunting on a Lonely Hill" (Moriyama Daido).
