"Shinjuku 1999-2008 (Signed)" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Hoshi Gento. After turning 20, he left Yokohama, where he was born and raised, and worked at night in the countryside. At one point, he was doing well at work and living a glamorous life, but he closed his business, leaving behind debts. After living such a turbulent life, he started to take up photography in earnest after his mid-20s, studied at the Institute of Contemporary Photography, and has been working as a freelancer since 2000. In 2007, he released "Luminance of Streets," a monochrome snapshot set in night streets such as Shinjuku and Kabukicho. Following in the footsteps of Seiji Kurata and others, his intense snapshots with a sniper-like gaze and many works filled with love are popular. This is the third book following the aforementioned "Luminance of Streets" and "Kuchibue," which was later published by an American publisher. This book is made up of snapshots taken in Shinjuku from the late 1990s to the 2000s.
