"Sitting in China" is a collection of works by German photographer Michael Wolf (1954-2019). Born in Munich in 1954, he spent his student years in the United States and Canada, then returned to Germany to study visual communication at the University of Essen under Otto Steinert. He began working as a journalist in the 1990s and spent several years in Hong Kong on a commission from the prestigious German magazine Stern, but gradually shifted his focus to fine art as the magazine industry declined. Since then, he has produced significant works on the theme of "cities," depicting the "landscapes," "expressions," and "fragments" of various parts of the world, especially large cities, from various angles. He is also famous for his portraits of crowded trains on the Tokyo subway. This is a conceptual collection of works on the theme of "chairs" photographed in China, published by Steidl in the 2000s.
