"Survey: Mountains (Signed)" is a collection of works by Japanese female photographer Shiho Yoshida (1992-). Since winning the Grand Prix at the 11th "1_WALL" Photography Competition in 2014, she has attracted attention for her numerous solo exhibitions and installations. Yoshida, a member of the 21st century generation, utilizes the internet to search for places and images that interest her, capture them on film like marks and likes, and then visit the locations to photograph them in person. She then combines the collected images with her own photographic images, raising and lowering them, hanging and placing them, enlarging and shrinking them, and completing the series as a "work," much like a Tillmans exhibition. Using the internet, she utilizes both digital and analog media to elevate her "work" to encompass a total production that goes beyond a single photograph. Her style is contemporary and, moreover, questions the future of photographic expression, making her an artist with promising promise. Yoshida's first book is themed around mountains, and is composed of images that interweave visual beauty and installation landscapes. This is the work that led to the award of the 46th Kimura Ihei Photography Award. Book design by Toshiki Koike.
