"The Past is Always New, the Future is Always Nostalgic (Signed)" is a collection of works by Daido Moriyama, one of the most renowned photographers of the 20th century. While a documentary film of the same name was released in 2021, this volume, originally published in 2000, chronologically compiles conversations and fragments of words from the 30 years between 1969 and 1999. The book also features conversations with Takuma Nakahira, including "Abolish the Word Photograph" and "August 2nd, Mountaintop Hotel" (included in Moriyama's masterpiece, "Goodbye Photography"), a conversation with Shomei Tomatsu, "Concerning the 'I' in Photography," and "77 Questions for Masahisa Fukase," as well as texts dedicated to photographers whom Moriyama admires, including Keizo Kitajima, Seiryu Inoue, and Nakaji Yasui.
