"Ikiru (First Edition)" is a collection of works by Masashi Sanai, one of Japan's leading photographers. Sanai, who began taking photographs in earnest in the early 1990s, is an unusual photographer who has perfected his own style through self-study. Although essentially different, his work depicts somewhat ordinary landscapes, but his way of cutting them out and his deep insight into the subject are reminiscent of the highly popular Yoshiko Seino, and together with Takashi Homma and Mikiko Hara, who emerged in a similar era, they attracted a lot of attention as new generation photographers who will lead the 21st century. As expected, their popularity and activities continue to this day, but this book is the first book published in 1997. As mentioned above, the fragments of ordinary everyday landscapes are filled with the atmosphere of the 1990s, which is typical of this era, and the book design by Satoru Machiguchi, who is from the same generation, is one of the best masterpieces that brought unprecedented fun and versatility to photography. After struggling to find a publisher, the book caught the eye of Yasuda, the president of Seigensha, and was finally published, but it did not sell at all at first. However, it ended up being a masterpiece that went into its fourth edition in 2007. First edition published in 1997.
