This book is a catalogue of photographs published on the occasion of the exhibition "Tokyo Today" held in 1996 by the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee. Based on the committee's aims of "thinking about life through culture and art" and cultural exchange between Europe and Japan, the book is a compilation of images of "Tokyo" taken by 24 photographers from Europe and Japan, with the theme of "People living in Tokyo and their lives". The director of this exhibition is Robert Delpire, husband of photographer Sarah Moon, respected by many photographers, and head of the publishing company "Delpire", who also selected the 24 photographers and edited this book. Masato Seto and Shintaro Suda were selected from Japan, but the European members are also wonderful. The lineup includes Harry Gruyaert and Gueorgui Pinkhassov from Magnum Photos, as well as big names like Lars Tunbjork, Bertinen Van Manen, Manfled Wilman, and Joan Fontcuberta, as well as Yvon Lambert, Klaudij Sluban, Paulo Nozolino, and others who would not have participated had Delpire not invited them. Gruyaert's landscapes of the neon lights of red-light districts and Van Manen's portraits of young Japanese people are a series of unique images that are not usually seen.
